Branding

There is a discussion on the Branding professionals LinkedIn forum currently, where over 500 people have pitched in with their answers to the question – ‘What is branding?’

Opinions vary considerably and there are some very technical and lengthy answers, by many who know much more than I do about the theory of branding.

However, for Legends my take on branding is quite simple - I help people promote their brand, organisation or club by reproducing their logo, company name or message clearly on to clothing or a range of promotional products

The methods used are as follows:

This process starts from a picture or design which is turned in to a pattern through a computerized process called digitizing. Then this image is stitched using thread usually on to clothing. There is normally a one-off set up charge for this process.

Larger and more complex logos require more stitches and take longer and cost slightly more.

There is a wide choice of colours available to use in patterns and unlike printing you are not charged per colour used. So for multi colour logos embroidery can often work out to be the most cost effective option.

Printing

There are various printing methods which are used for and three are described as follows.

Screenprinting

For larger quantities, screenprinting is the favoured printing process on to clothing such as cotton t-shirts and hoodies. Screenprinting looks sharp, washes well and generally lasts longer than transfer printing.

Transfer printing

This method can be used for short and long print runs. It is good for personalising garments with a name or number. And it is increasingly used for full colour printing particularly on to polyester as for the Cateran Yomp t-shirts job.

Digital printing

One example is the range of polyester shirts that can be digitally printed with almost any design you want. You can include as many logos as you want and personalise every shirt with names and numbers. The only limit is your imagination!
